By Car
The Stephenson Centre is easy to reach from the A14 and A12, with good connections from across Suffolk, including Woodbridge, Hadleigh, and Felixstowe.
Please note that we don’t have parking on-site. However, there are several public car parks nearby, all within a short walk:
Fore Street Car Park (IP4 1JZ) – Just around the corner
Smart Street Car Park (IP4 1BP) – A convenient short-stay option
RCP Duke Orwell Quay (IP3 0BT) – Ideal if you’re coming from the Waterfront
NCP Tacket Street (IP4 1AU) – About a 5-minute walk away
Sat Nav Tip: Use postcode IP4 1LN. We’re the large Grade II listed building on the corner of Grimwade Street and Star Lane.
By Bus
Ipswich is well served by local bus routes from across the area, and several stops are close to the centre:
Grimwade Street (by Suffolk New College) – Right outside
Fore Street / St Helens Street – Around a 2-minute walk
Old Cattle Market Bus Station – About a 10-minute walk through the town centre
Popular services include Ipswich Buses routes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 23, as well as the Park and Ride Route 800.
By Train
Ipswich Railway Station is around 0.8 miles away, which is approximately a 15–20 minute walk.
If you’re walking from the station:
Cross the bridge onto Princes Street
Continue towards the town centre
Turn right onto Star Lane
Follow Star Lane past the Waterfront
Turn onto Grimwade Street – we’ll be on your left
Taxis are available outside the station, and buses 13 and 23 can also bring you closer to the centre.
Arriving at The Stephenson Centre
When you reach 81 Grimwade Street, you’ll see the sign for The Captains House. Please enter through the main front door and ring the buzzer for “The Stephenson Centre.”
